I20 expired

Hi everybody,
I have been a student at devry university since 2002, and I changed my major once, which by administrative error, school did not update in the SEVIS, so now I have just two courses left and my I20 expired on 26th June. DOS says they are trying for an extension, but I am still worried. I could not understand also, what exactly is the 60 day grace period for? When should I try for reinstatement?...In short, WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW?
Someone, Pls help me?

60 day grace period is given to you after the graduation so you could either"
1. transfer to another school
2. get OPT (it has to start before the grace period is over)
3. finish your affairs and leave the country.

you can apply for reinstatement within 5 months of falling out of status. Especially if it's no fault of yours.

Do these options also apply for a student that applied for OPT but did not complete the requirements for graduation? Here is my situation:

1. Needed to test out of languages to grad but applied for grad and signed up to CLEP out of the languages.
2. Since they exipred my I-20 when I applied for OPT last week I needed to pass the CLEP to finish everything.
3. Didn't pass the CLEP, missed the mark by 2 points, (I'm an idiot) today. Got the I-292C (notice of action) from USCIS in the mail as well.
4. Checked online, OPT has been approved and they ordered the card. Since I did the CLEP in Spanish earlier I cannot repeat for a few months again, November to be exact. My OPT is due to start Aug 15th or thats what my advisor put.
5. The school I'm going to I work for part time and they are willing to sponsor me, which means not subject to visa cap. I'll prob lose that if I have to stop working for any period of time.

My question is what are my options? Should I just ride it out and test out of the languages in Nov to finish up or should I go see the advisor and let her know bearing in mind they might put me out of status and basically out of a job?

Please someone help me, I'm desperate here.
