Aliens are protected by the Constitution

Tasse, For your information, immigrants are protected by the Constitution. Read on.

From the American Civil Liberties Union site:

"THE RIGHTS OF IMMIGRANTS

In decisions spanning more than a century, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the Constitution's guarantees apply to every person within U.S. borders, including "aliens whose presence in this country is unlawful."
On the other hand, the Court has said that when the federal government uses its broad powers to supervise immigration into this country, it can exercise those powers in ways that discriminate on the basis of "alienage." In other words, the government has the power to decide who to let into the country and under what circumstances. But once here, even undocumented immigrants have the right to freedom of speech and religion, the right to be treated fairly, the right to privacy, and the other fundamental rights U.S. citizens enjoy."

This is simple

It is very simple that why people of some countries are favoured. It depends on foreign policy & relationship with the other country.
Case
1)many people originally from country 'A' are citizens of country 'B', then country 'B' will be favourable to immigration from country 'A'
2)Country 'A' is ruled by a group/person, who is against counry 'B' then any one in country 'A', who is against the government of country 'A' will be favourable to country 'B'.
This is the way the world has worked so far:)

Peter

Peter, who do you think you are .. "Some congress sponsored politician?"

I think we need to realize that laws and regulations aside, there is another set of rules that operates in this country, and that is how to bend around the law. For example, employers abuse their h1b employees all the time, because they can get away with it since employees are waiting for their Green Cards. Thats against the law .. but who cares .. !!! Both aliens and citizens are pissed off at INS and the immigration policy .. BUT .. the story remains.

Essentially, being a citizen gives you the right to vote etc, being a Green Card holder gets you the right to work freely for whoever you wish. In other words, an Alien .. on h1B or whatever .. has diddly squat for laws and rights .. and .. that includes right to free speech.

You wanna prove me wrong? Lets see you .. use your rights and laws and try and fix the INS .. and I promise, you have my unflinting support in the cause as I am sure lot others on this board would do so.

Sillyman,

Yet another unsuccessful attempt at changing the topic. If you bothered to read my previous posts, you would realize that I posted the information about the rights of immigrants in this country to show that I'm entitled to speak my mind on this board as much as anyone else and not to prove that the U.S. is a perfect country -- personally, though, I think it is one of the best in the world. My posts were neither unfriendly nor unhelpful but I have been told to delete them because some members of this community don't agree with them. More to the point, I think I have been told to delete them because many people in this community find it easier to be negative (and perhaps enjoy it) than they do to be positive about the immigration process.

As far as your comments about H-1Bs receiving different treatment from their employers are concerned, I can't comment on that because it has not been my experience. Besides, without any concrete evidence to support your claims your comments are just a lot of hot air.

cut this bulls**t please

and try to enjoy the holidays! One day everyone will get their GC - sooner or later. There is no sense of talking like that - after all, we are all on the same boat. I think that this forum is useful to all of us and we should be able to post different opinions on the events that's been happening around us. Don't fight with each other, but try to be useful with information, opinions, etc. Everybody needs that.
Good luck... and have fun.

Hope Everyone has had a good Thanksgiving!

Had posted a nice long reply, unfortunately got lost in this site's mysterious time out policies.

Too lazy to type it again, but here is the essence is short:

1. SillyMan please don't stop posting on account of these two. (offcourse you have agreed to stay on as per your pervious mail, but since I din't get around to asking you to stay before you agreed to stay, wanted to get that in, better late than never).

2. Peter and Gutterboy if you don't like it, don't read it. (Interestingly you have been assimilated! Thanks to your strong reactions, You are now full members of the bitching and moaning club. Greetings and Welcome to you). While I personally don't like your opinion, and may not bother to read it, and if I do, I will flame it. It is still welcome (probably as welcome as the cold and the flu, but we have to live with those and we will live with you).

3. If you are interested in statistics void the personality, I would advice you to stick to RupNet.

4. I will try to tone down on my more negative and pessimistic posts, I am sure people know my opinion on INS by now, no need to reinforce it. :) But if anyone needs people for a chorus on that thread, feel free to invite me to join.

5. Hope you guys had a good thanksgiving, cause I certainly did.

6. This mail has gotten to be pretty big :) Sorry about that!
