I just Got my Finger Print Notice today--
My I 485 notice date was 31 Jan 2001
and my Finger Print date is 2nd week of July.
I have a Question --- How long i have to wait for Green Card after FP? Did they call Every one for Passport/White card Stamping? Or they might sent GC by mail without other interview
Thanks Everone Including Gilbart.I am really Excited about that FP notice-at least we are getting Closer to GC. Good luck to everyone

Your GC will PROBABLY arrive without an interview. However, first you'll get an approval notice that will direct you to go to your local INS officer to get your passport stamped. Make sure you don't have a passport to stamp (because you're an asylee, of course)! Instead, they'll give you a temporary I-94 with your picture and status on it (usually valid for 6 months to a year). 4 months later you'll receive your GC in the mail.

How long from FP? No one knows; usually about a year until your approval. But the projected AOS approval based on your receipt date is 2 years.(??)

Despondent, will you please elaborate your last sentence, regarding the projected AOS approval. I didnt fully understood. Thanks a lot.

Despondent! We have been talking about using passports after getting green card. Why is that you said that do not bring passport for stamping, even though the letter from INS itself says that bring your passport for stamping.

So in other words you are saying not to have stamped passport at green card interview time but go ahead and use it afterwards???

Sal, I was citing the currently posted NSC processing time for the asylee AOS applications.

Lazer, I don't know why this is so hard to understand.

1) The "don't take the passport" applies only to passports that have been renewed or obtained AFTER asylum was granted. You can't have a renewed passport from the country you sought refuge from if you're an asylee. Most CIS officers who are stamping the passport probably wouldn't even notice, but that's too big of a risk to take as far as I'm concerned.
I'm yet to meet an asylee whose AOS was approved that still has a valid passport that they used to get into the country before they applied for asylum. If you haven't noticed, it takes a while to get a get a GC as an asylee.

2) Once you get your GC no one at POE gives a damn what travel document you have. As long as its valid, and the customs officer has a place to stamp "admitted" on it. As far as they're concerned you've jumped through enough hoops to get the GC; they don't have time to play Sherlock Holmes...unless you say something really stupid.

3) Once your citizenship time has tolled, and you are about to be interviewed DON'T take the renewed passport (post-asylum) to the interview because it might raise questions about the validity of your old asylum case. Use your head. Why create problems when they can be easily avoided.

Very simple suggestions. Nothing contradictory.
