I Never Knew!

When i arrived at work this morning, i sat at my desk and started doing my work. This may seem like a normal everyday thing but it has not been for a few months now. When my background check was pending, it was all i could think about. I would come to work and immediately check to find any news on immigration, i would call USCIS to see if there is any change in my case. I would research to see if there was anyone else i could write. I never realized how enslaved i was to this whole system. Now i feel free, clear. I don't know if my husband's paper's are going to go smoothly but I will try not to let the worry enslave me. That's why i will do anything i can to help others because i understand the pain. :)

Hello,

This morning I tried calling USCIS, but I want to talk to a live body. How can I do that? What options I choose so I can talk to a live body and get some information about my case. Whoever applied at the same time as me got their interview letters but I still haven't got it. Getting worried so I really want to talk to a person. Your help will be appreciated.

Do an infopass for reliable and immediate information. Don't waste your time talking to the buffoons on the outsourced information line. When I had called to ask when my interview will be scheduled, I had asked if my background check was done. The lady said we don't do any background checks until the applicant passes the interview. Needless to say I thanked her for her time and put down the phone without any follow up questions.

Call 1-800-375-5283, select options 1,2,6,0. Wait for about 2 secs after your press each of those options. When the operator answers your call, have him/her connect to an officer who can look up your case with your A #. The officer can see your file in detail vs those operators who answers your calls. The key is to get that officer online.

They are giving us a hard time transfer now. I had to hang up and call back a couple of times the last couple of times. They transfer you at their own discretion now. Just uscis giving us grief. Good Luck to you. If i had the time i would have made infopass instead. The people on the lines don't always have current information.

Thanks for the reply. I just called the # and chose the options mentioned above. The lady said, we only have the information what you can see online. If you want detailed info, then I need to do Infopass and the officer can tell me more details. Is that a normal reply to get from customer service or you think something is fishy. please let me know. Thanks.

The first line of customer service people are just that customer service, they cannot really see a lot of information. To get actual info, you need to be transferred to an immigration officer. Ask them to be transferred to an immigration officer, tell them that you need to see up to date information on your case to know if you need to make an infopass or not. It's worth a try. Otherswise, your best bet is to go to www.uscis.gov and make an infopass appointment. Good Luck to you. Should you decided to write any letters to anyone, i would be happy to help you as well.:)

Agreed

I agree with frustrated_alot. When I call cust service, before they start reading their script...."Hi I am bla bla id # bla bla bla", I interept them and tell them by saying " Sorry to interept you sir/madam, but I was just transferred to an officer and I got disconnected so I am calling back again. 99% of the time this confuses them and without any further delay they usually end up transferring your call to an officer. Tell the officer that you don't have access to the computer where you could look up your case yourself and this is why you are calling them. Try and see if this helps :)

I know what you mean. My Case is not nearly as complicated as yours but I would say the first 6 Month I checked 10-30 times a day my status online (funny thing .... it is still up, lol) .. would call USCIS, if I wasn't satisfied with the answer call again and again or even made an Infopass and then I started to realize JUST STOP .... you drive yourself nuts over this.

So then all of the sudden, unexpected .... it came !!!

And now waiting on Oath Letter. I know it will come, if not .. I sue, lol. So nothing to worry about anymore.

Glad it is 95% over !

Sounds just like me. If i didn't like what i heard, i would hang up and call back to talk to someone different.lol. I would sit and worry, sit and worry. That's all i would do. It was frustrating, depressing and heartbreaking. I was calling everyday because my case never showed up online. Towards the end, i think i called 2 or 3 times everday.:)

HI...I waited 10 years for my citizenship and now it feels like it is a dream and I still look at this forum everyday.....

Looking everyday for info has become a part of our lives but now I can look everyday to try to help other people.

I hope that your journey goes well.

I can almost say the same. No Oath Date for me yet but there is no more weight on my shoulders. It is gone, I don't have to worry about this and that paper. What should I take, what shouldn't I ... just walking into the unknown and this forum made it more real and I think due to this Forum and all the stories ... good or bad ... helped me through this.

when I used to call they told me they will transfer to officer only if my date is past the published processing date.

They give us a much harder time now. Some of them are nice and will send you through, some will just be so mean and nasty to you. They basically tell you that you have no rights.

They always lied to me. For example you remember when I called just to see if they updated my AR-11 in the computer. I knew that they received it because I got that little green card back in the mail but that didn't mean anything to me. I wanted satisfaction so I called and she told me the only thing she can see on the screen what I can see when I check my online status. Of course dumb me did believe her, was new to this forum so had no idea how things go and didn't even think about questioning it so I made an Infopass and drove 130 miles there with a 3 week old for a 3 min Infopass to see if they updated my new address in the computer. And then 130 miles back .. waste of time and money. Then I ask here and found out I was lied to .. man was I hot !!! But then I got smarter, hehe.

Oh yeah, that's what they do. After i had found out that all my checks had cleared, some of them still told me that my case was still pending a background check.LOL. It was funny and confusing but i got used to the issues. That so called information line gives nothing but misinformation. Oh well. I will have to deal with them maybe twice more. When I file my husband papers on Monday and when he files for citizenship. Atleast i have the experience now. I know how to handle any problems.

wow. finally, CSC has started processing N-400. My check just got cached (11/05/2007). Where do I find the case number on the cashed check? Does anyone know?

Yet another post proving that CSC has finally got a move-on. NSC has also started processing N-400s in a timely manner. Will TSC and VSC catch up too? Time will tell!
