hello every body i need help! I was compliting my N400 form when I find out the tax question and the problem is that I didn't file my 06 taxes it was my firs year in the usa and got bad feed back, i made less than 10k like 5000 as self employee and like 4000 or less with a w-2.
both was reported to IRS by my employers but i never file them.
what can i do can I still file for that year? and what if I don't have the forms that my employers send me to file my taxes how do i do it know?!

With 10K income, and if you were married, you will probably not have to file. See if you can download the old forms and check your eligibility / need for filing. If you were not expected to file, it is not an issue.

If you truly were expected to file, talk to a tax practitioner / preparer. From what I know, it is not easy to file returns more than 3 years old, but to satisfy USCIS you will need to declare that all taxes are current. Tax prepare will be best able to advise how to get current on taxes that old.

First find out (from your filing status and income level) and if you had to file. If you had to file, call the IRS and ask for a payer transcript for the year you didn't file.

I would not suggest not filing taxes even with $500 income a year much less 10K, go and file, there has never been a problem filing even 10 years old tax returns as long as you don't owe anything but still they need to be filed.

That is likely to be false if her spouse also had income.

Also, people with more than $400 of self-employment income have to file.

Alright, I am educated on the limits. However, there was no advice about filing or not filing, but the point was to check the need for filing, and then file as per the needs.

This is what i did after i found out about my 2004 taxes. Mind you this was a couple of months ago (almost 6 years after they were due, so it's not that hard to file your taxes. What is hard is collect a refund after the statute of limitation has passed). First find out if you were required to file. Then if you were supposed to file your taxes and you don't have the forms your employer sent you, contact the IRS and they will send you a printout of what your W2 had. They will also give you an address where to send the return. The printout does not look like the original W2 the employer sent you but you can find instructions on which line of the printout to use on which part of the return.

thank you every one for your answer they are really a help.
so i spoke with a person that makes taxes and he toll me that i can file them but again i will not be able to recive any return back if i had one.
but any ways that is not really what i care about right now all i want is file them so i can answer yes on the quiestion 4 and 5 from the part 10 of the form(N400)
i found two of the tax form am just missing one and hopefully as soon as i find it i will go and file, i hope i dont have to pay to much :(.
now my biggest concern is that i dont have much time my green card expires on jan-11 next year!! so now my question is what would happen if can't submit my form(N400) by december? do i have to renew my green card? and then submit it or whats gonna happen? how does it work? what if i submit the form by december? because as far as i know it takes some time for them to get back to you so in the main time what do i have to do if my green card expires on jan-11?

oh yeah and i forgot to mention that i'm filing by my self am not married so adding everything it came out less then $5,000 so am calling tomorrow to see if i have to file or not but please answer my questions on the top!

You have to file, because that was self-employment income for which the threshold to file is just $400.

You also have to renew your green card, because you will not be granted citizenship before it expires, and you did not file the N-400 soon enough to qualify for the GC renewal exemption (i.e. if you filed the N-400 with more than 6 months remaining on the GC, you could get a free I-551 stamp in your passport if the GC expires while your naturalization process is pending).

oh no! so now whats the process to renew my green card whats the form and the fee? is it a complicated process as well?

Form I-90 to renew the green card: http://www.uscis.gov/i-90

It's a simple process; after submitting the form and supporting evidence you'll go for fingerprinting in about a month, then the new card will arrive in the mail 2-6 months later.

When you go for the fingerprinting you can request an I-551 stamp in your passport, or you can make a separate Infopass appointment and carry the I-90 receipt and request the I-551 stamp.

Note that the fees are increasing on November 23rd; if your I-90 arrives at USCIS on or after the 23rd, they will reject it if you sent the old fee amount.
