BTW, my date is in late January (Mumbai) and I wonder how I will get time to apply at Chicago. Does anyone know how much time it takes for Indian Consulate in Chicago?

PCC Get it from Indian Embassy in Washington DC..

You may get it within 15 days..if you have renewed the Passport in USA

or else it will take 1 month with $22 charge for telex..to expediate
in additions to $ 11 fee for PCC.

My wife got it in 10 days since her passport was renewed here..?

What is the basis of their information?

As Sudhirkumar points out, it would be great to know the source of this information for Immihelp. Mumbai consulate has consistently maintained this position though i.e. if you are in the US get the PCC from Consulate.

By the way, NY consulate does not do telex as per an email I got from them.
