I have H-1, wife has H-4, how to file tax jointly?

Hello,

I have an H1-B visa, I got married on Dec 4th 2007, so I am "married" for 2007 tax purposes. I want to file jointly, but my wife has no SSN (nor can she get one).

What should be the best way to do this?

Hi,

Go to any good tax agent and tell him you are on H1 visa and wife on H4 and want to file tax and apply ITIN(form W7).
Both need to be done simultaneously.
I did the same few weeks ago.
Its left hand job for tax agents.
 
Just apply for ITIN and once you get the number, you have to call IRS and give the number. They may hold the tax return $ for the dependent until the ITIN is supplied to them. After it is provided, they will refund the amount along with interest.
