Got married and added spouse
RD: april 8, 2002

1st RFE (for me): april 2003
birth affidavits, employment letter
1st RFE rcvd by CIS: may 2003

2nd FP: jan 2004

2nd RFE (for me): jan 20, 2004
employment letter
2nd RFE rcvd by CIS: feb 6, 2004

Case transferred to local office in San Diego: feb 20, 2004
(this was due to CIS mistake, i am in denver; my lawyer is in SD)

Case transferred back to NSC: april 27, 2004

3rd RFE (for spouse): may 18, 2004
documents showing that our marital relationship continues to exist
3rd RFE rcvd by CIS: jun 9, 2004

approved (finally!!!): june 18, 2004

i contacted a senator in Oct 2003, and they were helpful. i got the 2nd FP, i think, due to their sending a request. Also, i got useful status information through their office. In late april, they informed me that our cases were back at NSC (after being mistakenly transferred to San Diego) and that our security checks have been completed.

Till summer last year, i wasn't too concerned and thought it will get approved sooner or later. Starting this year, i was more worried, esp since things kept going wrong.

it feels great to not to have to fear being laid off!!

First of all Congratuations.

I have a quesiton, I am Nov. 2001 case too. How long does it take your case to go through FBI security check?

Thank you. Enjoy your freedom. Wish us good luck.

What documents did you use to respond to this RFE?

Congratulations Googol !!

I must say it is exceptionally pleasing to see all old timers (2001) getting approvals..

With due apologies to all the later filers (mid 2003) but it is unfair for some of these, as I have seen in other threads, to start expecting their approvals and start anguishing on the speed of USCIS....

Let also think of the suffering of the people caught in this 'chakravyuh' before us

I don't know what googol used, but these documents could be used for showing the same -

  1. rental agreements (in both names)
  2. mortgage paperworks (in both names)
  3. utility bills at same address (one bill in both names, or two bills in separate names. for example, electric bill in husband's name and telephone bill in wife's name).
  4. bank statement for joint bank account
  5. credit card (both using same credit card account)
  6. DMV car registration paper (if car/cars in both names)

basically anything that will prove that you are living together under same roof.

Congratulations Googol,

Its very nice to see an old timer getting approved. I can imagine how relieved you must be seeing your approval.

It may be unfair, but it is happening. Read this, 485 RD 01/03 approved. It is not his fault that he got approved 'out of turn'. Everyone does want early filers to be approved first, but if USCIS policy is pointing to early filers being approved fast, don't fault others for expecting.

ImmigrateMe,
I am not sure about that. I didn't send any enquiry to FBI. but i am suspecting that it took a while since after i responded to my rfe in may 03, nothing happened till jan 04. i am not sure if this was due to plain inefficiency or because the security checks took that long.
the senator's office that i had contacted to get status on my application did tell me in april 04 that all my security checks were completed.

armie,
as pralay mentioned the rfe asked for showing mortgage, lease docs, financial docs, or any other docs indicating that we are married.
i sent the following:
1. joint tax returns of the last two years
2. rental lease with both our names
3. bank statements, checks
4. spouse's driver;s license (with the same address as mine)
5. health insurance card with both our names
6. car insurance
7. joint ownership of car
