Hi all, I had my citizenship interview Yesterday !

The officer was nice and quick.
finished interview in 15 minutes.
Asked mostly on the information provided in the application, and travel related questions. asked 5 civic questions, and wrote one simple english sentence. he didnt ask any documents at all.
And told he will send the application for his supervisors approval and I will hear the decision in mail.

I will keep u posted.

Thank you for posting your N-400 interview experience GC Mama. It seems like you had a very normal interview (no probiing questions and no additional documents asked) and you are all set for approval. Good luck to you, please do keep us updated as well.

I don't want to burst your bubble but when an IO says, "you will hear about our decision in mail", that is not necessarily a good thing. In normal circumstances, the interview officer makes a recommendation for approval right away and tells the applicant that they should expect an oath letter in blah-blah time frame.

Nice Job GC Mama!!!

If it were me...I wouldn't worry about anything until about after 2-3 months after the interview.:) Considering that there is an overwhelming number of people applying for citizenship right now, it wouldn't surprise me at all if IOs just want to process as many people as they can so they give a simple answer such as in your case. Keep us posted and good luck!!!;)

I respectfully disagree with Takadigi. The interviewing IO technically does not have the authority to approve an application. It goes to his/her supervisor. This way, the USCIS covers itself in the event of a very "successful" interview but a need to put things on hold or do some more checking.

Thus I would say that GC Mama has little to worry about. The response that she (?) got was normal and that she will most likely receive an approval letter which is, in fact, the oath letter.

I was told to expect that this would take 60-90 days but in fact mine came much sooner. It depends on the workload of your local office.

I agree with you. It seems from everything I am reading that the USCIS is overwhelmed with Citizenship application.s I sent my application almost 3 weeks ago, the check was cashed over a week ago but still I have not yet recieved the Priority date and reciept noticification letter, when a month ago and before that the Prioroty date letters were sent within a week or two after the N-400 applications were recieved.

yup!

Hi jgs1

Yup. I think that we're both right on. I mean, just think hundreds of thousands of people are trying to beat the July 30th deadline. So, I think, that if you've been a lawful PR for at least 5 years there is nothing to worry about. It's only a matter of waiting. Which really does suck. But at least we have the opportunity to undergo this process and by the end, all the waiting and inconveniences of this application process will have been worth it.:D

You can disagree but you can't change the facts. If there were no outstanding issues, the IO would give the applicant the form N-652 with the line checked that says, "Congratulations. You application has been recommended for approval."

Only in case muddy cases where a decision cannot be reached, the IO says, you will hear about our decision in mail. This is very different from getting the oath letter.

Thus I would say that GC Mama has little to worry about. The response that she (?) got was normal and that she will most likely receive an approval letter which is, in fact, the oath letter.
I would humbly disagree. If the IO said, "you will hear about our decision ...", GC Mama needs to definitely worry about it.

Jedi.Knight - What do you mean by July 30th deadline? Please help.
jediKnight is referring to the fee hikes for the N-400 which will come into effect on July 30th. Right now, the fairly substantial increase in fees, combined with a citizenship drive on Spanish language media encouraging LPRs to apply for citizenship, is causing a huge spike in N-400 applications. Don't worry, there is no true "deadline" - just a cutoff point after which the fees wil rise.
