I checked my case status using A#...

Hello Everybody,

I went to the BCIS web and checked my status by entering the A#. Actually I have not received the plastic card and SS Card. But I got the welcome within 2 weeks of POE. So I was wondering what's going on and tried the online status. Following is the status it showed me.


Application Type: OS155A, IMMIGRANT VISA AND ALIEN REGISTRATION

Current Status:

This case has been approved. On June 10, 2003, an approval notice was mailed. If 14 days have passed and you have not received this notice, you may wish to verify or update your address. To update your address, please speak to an Immigration Information Officer during business hours. ...........

Can I assume that they have sent the plastic card? Any guess?

POE: 19th May (Los Angeles)
Welcome letter received within 2 weeks.
Plastic card & SS card not yet received.

That means that your application for GC had got its final approval and your GC cards have been mailed to you. The plastic cards should be in your mailbox any day now.

Welcome letter received within 2 weeks.
Plastic card & SS card not yet received.
SS Cards comes from the local/regional SSA office and not from Texas Service Center. You should also have them pretty soon.

You have the correct URL but you need the SRC/WAC number which will come in the welcome letters. You cannot check the status using the A# number.

Can you confirm whether you used your A # or the SRC number
to inquire?

Sorry for the confusion..

Actually I used the number from my welcome letter. It starts with WAC as I'm from CSC.

So, I might get the plastic card today itself.. great..

Where is the A#, on the passport?

The INS officer would have noted the A# in your passport, on the page where he puts the temporary GC stamp.

Or, if you have kept a copy of the Visa document you would find it there too.

Got the plastic card today.. Thanks for everything.. but this SS Card is not yet there.. let's wait until next week then..

Can I apply for a SSN, the same day of my POE? I recently have a CP interview and got a visa package. Will be appreciated for your reply.

From what we heard from people before us, you need not do
anything. The SS Administration would receive the information from INS and they would send your new cards ( with the same
old number ) to you by mail.

There is a question in the DS froms which asks whether you
want the information to be passed on to SS Administration for
which we normally mark 'YES' and sign.

I do not know how this works for the dependends who did not
have the SS cards before. Would they get the cards automatically too ? OR do we apply for them ? Probably someone would respond to this question !

I am concern on spouse SSN. She just have a tax ID, no prior SSN number. Any info would be appreciated.
