Hello folks. Just for curiosity I called the 1800 and asked them about using NP and RTD

This is what happened.

I asked: I am going to spain and Germany and I have National PAssport and RTD valid (I had NP since before the asylum) I told her that Spain requires a Visa to enter with RTD and they knew I have a NP so they would not issue a VISA on RTD since I can enter Spain with NP (no visa required) I asked her if it was ok for me to enter Spain with my NP and just get back to USA with my RTD with no Stamps and she seemed so Sure and so confident she answered.

Why would you be affraid of using your NP? You still a XXX citizen and you have not given up your citizenship if Spain wants u to use NP to enter their country then you must use you NP, US doesn't care if you go to spain or China as long as you dont go to you COP you are fine. All the US care about is that when you enter back you first of all are not comming from COP, second is that you have a RTD valid. That's all US cares about.
So she strongly advised me to use my NP to enter any country I want (not COP) and just show a valid RTD when I enter back the US. she said that the RTD is for two things to be allowed to get back into the US and to be used in lieu of a passport, but if you have a NP then you can use your NP. She seemed so confident about this that It actually confuses me. because at some point it makes sense what she says. I do not have a GC yet. just the RTD and I haven't give up my citizenship yet I mean I am still a xXX citizen.

Does any of you know about this things ? people using NP to enter other countries and just showing RTD to enter back?

Is just so confusing that the actual USCIS help line tells you these things.

are we just being paranoic? are they right. ?? are we wrong??? where is the law stating that we cannot use National PAssport???? I know it says do not go to COP but about NP :confused::confused::confused:

And it's so weird because entering back from Canada, the IO asked me why I didn't have my PAssport with me???? another confusing one.

YOu must be stupid to believe what the 800 numbers say ok? Those people just want you to hang up so that they can get to next sucker on the line...

LOL so they suck practically?
what a bunch of crapp. Why would they open that USCIS line.?

Its helpful for people who dont' have internet..and trust me lots of people don't have internet or don't know how to use it to look up a case. They can call and ask but for people who want actual advice....its a big no no. Its better you bang your head against the wall before asking for sound advice.

asyleedec2006,

The USCIS line ARE NOT IMMIGRATION OFFICERS, they are just trained customer service representatives....

You are still an sylee, you can not use use mexican passport.... thats the rule... it maybe ok after you get your green card but no when you are STILL AN ASYLEE.

I have asked several lawyers and they ALL agreed that the use of NP when you are still an asylee is NO NO...
When the asylee becomes PR is a different story... some say its ok some say its not...

I believe we have told you that in previous threads... but I guess you are welcome to do whatever is right for you...

Yeah, I would be on the safe side and get a Spanish visa.

My personal opinion is that unless you renew your NP after asylum was granted you should be fine. I used my NP for travel purpose a few times and I find it to be way more convenient than using RTD.
