I am on j-1..what is the status of my wife if she is a Brtish citizen living in US

I am Dr.Hashim hanif and i want to know what is the status of my wife if she is with me In US while i am on J-1.how long can she stay,can she work and everything related to it.

Your wife has a J2 visa. Apply to the INS to get a work permit. They will approve it as long as she is not working to support you. Go to their web site and search for the right form and begin applying. It usually takes more than three months to get it.

what visa did your wife use to come to the States? J-2? Visa waiver program? There is a huge difference between the two.

his wife is a Brtish citizen, so she does not need visa entering US for some time. beyond that time, she may either go back and enter US again or apply a visa such as J-2 or others.
