I know thats not new to you folks (me being depressed). But recently something terrible happened in my life. Which is sort of aggravated by the fact that I donot have GC, and cannot travel.

This is not a made up thing .. I feel really really sad and absolutely alone. :(

Oh God, please please show me some light.

Why don't you try emergency AP, which will be helpful if you need to be with your family members at this time.

I am in a similar situation, i cannot travel,. But nothing bad has happened to me at home or anything.

It has been 4 years since i visited my family and they keep asking the same question, when r u coming home ?
I was hoping GC by now and thought of travel.

My GC filing company did not apply for AP since I had valid H1, now I quit it to join client using AC-21 i cannot travel.

that something terrible had happened. Somehow keep your hopes alive and thats the only damnedest thing we can hope to even try...
Lets all hope that INS gets tired of screwing our lives and does its job faster.

GEt Married SM ..... This will definately cheer u up .
INS is giving u enough time and hint by not approving u now so that u can get married and submit up ur wife's 485 before your GC. They do't want you to go through the same cycle for ur wife. :D :D

Terrible to hear bad news from home and not be able to go back at will. But if you are still in status with regards to you H1 can't you use that? If not then go for Emergency AP. They are pretty prompt about that.

There were situation in my life when I thought I am in the worst of situation. But, you know had it not been for those situation I would never have been where I am today.
I beleive that everything that happens in one's life is always good.
"Go back 2/3/5 years in your life and ask yourself if you are in better situation or worse now?"
and you would get the answer !!!!.

I do have a valid h1, I just haven't gotten it stamped on my passport yet. if I send it for stamping, they'll take around 3 months to send it back.

Question is, if I send it for h1 stamping, and they decide to approve my GC meanwhile, does it matter if I don't get my GC stamped on my passport for a while?

Ghost .. regards getting married. I'll keep that in mind, but you know better than that. But if you are married, don't forget to invite me over for Allu ki tikki.

PS: Did I mention, INS stinks donkey poo.
 
Though do't know but it seem u hv some thing at home. GO to local INS and get AP and travel. do't send it for H1 stamping cause its taking too long now.

Better to do visa stamping at abroad...

It'll be much faster. Only thing is you need to fill OF-156 form and all supporting documents (including degree certificates and mark sheets) through drop box or personally. Though it takes a day or 2 for the stamping at consulate it is worth.

If so, even if your I-485 is approved before your travel, you can very well stamp GC and no more confusions.

Otherwise try emergency AP, which will be less complicated.

I had checked all these possbilities with my lawyer the last time I travelled outside and expected to get GC approval very soon..in june 2002 :) :( anyway the lawyer said that as long as you have valid h1 or AP you can enter the country even though the 485 is approved. He said that you have GC only when you get your passport stamped..a few of his client's spouses came back 3 months after 485 approval using H4 and had no problems at all...just got the actual card later than the client himself.

hey ...and if you are going to India..trust me getting a new H1 stamped is SOOO EASY...at mumbai atleast..so keep that in mind.

I've been also in the same situation...haven't been home for the last 04 years. Parents first question always is "is there any progress"....

Wish INS could understand all this...

Sillyman U R the MAN , I can understand U r Pain , I am also in the same boat , waiting desparately for my AP (No valid H1) need to travel ASAP , Family needs me really BAD , I am keeping my hopes alive that i will be soon flying home . I am one of the silent visitor for a quite a while , i read most of your postings i beleive u really have some good knowledge on this stuff .
