My brother recently travelled from MD to Canada, without his I 94. He is on a student visa.
He had no trouble entering Canada, but on his way back he was interrogated extensively by US customs about me (I am in MD and have a green card) and they also brought to his attention that he didn't have an I 94 with him.
They gave him a form and told him he must send in the I94 to the address listed (Pennsylvania Ave, DC) and he would then be sent a new one.
My brother returned and did as directed and then heard nothing. He is now stuck without an I94 and we don't know what this means.
He has called a variety of numbers and general information lines and we are still as unsure of what to do.
The responses have ranged from: "Get a new one, click" - to "I have other calls to take, click" - to "It's OK, you'll gat a new one next time you enter the country" - to "You have to submit an application and pay $300."
There's a different answer every time he calls - even to the same number.
He even consulted an immigration lawyer who said he needed to reapply for an entirely new visa.
Please can anyone advise?
Thanks.
