First time when I enter to USA I had I-797 and passport with me, at the boarder INS issued white I-94 and also stamped my passport. after three years I renewed my H1 and approved I-797 came with attached I-94. couple mouths back I went to London and gave old expired 1-94 to airline personal, form London I came back to Canada, and then drove back to USA, at the boarded INS office asked me where are you going and I told him that I am going back to work , I gave hime my passport and I-797 . INS officer just looked at my picture and returned the passport and I-797 and said GO....he didnot issue I-94 nor he stamped my passport. whould this be a problem in future.
Iam Canadain citizen.

Not necessarily...

You should have asked for the I94. It is your responsibility.

But I do think that being a canadian citizen protects your status. But if say, you want to extend your h1 or apply for h4 for your dependents or send other documents to INS, a copy of current valid I94 might be needed.

You can revisit the border and still get the I94 .
