I-94 number missing on the H1

Hi
I came here in march 2006 in H4, and now applied for H1 and got it approved on jan 9 2007 thru vermont but unfortunately the new I-94 doesnt have a valid number on it. Its just blank, so when I went to the SSN office they denied to give me SSN and asked me to contact the USCIS. I went t USCIS and they asked me to contact the Vermont service center.

My attorney says that this is a fault on the government's par so we cannot do anything but wait.

Can anybody suugggest me what are the options. What if I go back to India on this H1 and get it stamped and come back in a month and so I will get a new I-94 with a valid number. Is there a risk of the US embassy not allowing me to return to US?

Any help would be appreciated.

Ask your attorney to apply for a corrected - I 94 from VSC. They will definitely correct their error. Unless your attorney ask officially ,they will not do any thing for you.
