I-94 NOT taken away at departure (DTW airport)

Hello, I haven't posted here for quite a while but I have an issue or I should say my girlfriend may have one...

She is a Hungarian citizen. She spent 10 weeks here in Toledo, OH in the summer as a pharmacy PhD exchange student on a J Visa. (By the way, her visa says the two-year home residency requirement does NOT apply to her, but that's not what I'm discussing here).

The issue is that her and a fellow Hungarian student's I-94 card was never taken away at departure at Detroit airport. I had told them that someone would take it away since this document must be turned in to CBP. But no one collected the I-94 cards and they eventually took them home to Hungary.

Now what? Should they send them to the KY address? My gf is planning on coming to visit in March. She does have all her past travel documents, boarding passes etc. when she left the USA in August, so she can prove she left the country legally.

thanks

You are right it has to be returned right away with ORIGINAL boarding passes, once received in KY allow at least 30 days before attempting to enter US again.
They should keep copies of everything when they travel to the US next time.

It's Their M.O.

This sounds like an unfortunate situation that was of no fault of your own, but which you're going to have to fix because they hold all the cards. This seems to be the MO of the USCIS

Thanks for the responses.
Just an update. First of all, it is the London, KY address.
Secondly, I found this on the official CBP.gov website:

"If you departed by a commercial air or sea carrier (airlines or cruise ships), your departure from the U.S. can be independently verified, and it is not necessary to take any further action, although holding on to your outbound (from the U.S.) boarding pass - if you still have it - can help expedite your reentry next time you come back to the United States."

So technically no action is necessary, still, to be on the safe side, we are going to send in her stuff. It's all assembled and ready to go anyway... :)

thanks again
