Hi people,
I have a valid I-94 till September and valid visa till 2007. I need to leave US and come back before September to get new I-94 which will last till 2007. If I go to Canada this month, when I reenter, I would still have valid I-94 (till September). Can I still ask BCIS officrr for a new I-94 at border?
If I could give my existing I-94 while departing Canada, I'll not have that issue but I have heard that there is nobody to take your I-94 at the border and also airlines do not accpet them while leaving US. Please help me know how can I get a brand new I-94 by travelling to cabada for 2-3 days.

Between US and Canada travel:
If you are entering Canada/US via road, you will not be given a new I94 until the current one expires, assuming your visa is a multiple entry visa. And yes, there is no one to accept your I94 when you depart US to Canada.

If you are flying, before you board back in Canada, the pre-departure clearance US agents at the Canadian airport may issue you an additional I94, but may not take away the current one, and make you go thro' US-VISIT fingerprinting. The validity of this additional one is upto the officer in charge. Again, there is no one to take your I94 at the US airport before you leave for Canada.

Flying to other countries:
While it is important to leave the US on or before your I94 expires, you can re-enter US even after the current I94 expires as long as you have a valid visa, which you do. They simply will process you through US-VISIT and issue a new I94 and its validity is upto the officer in charge.

General note:
Anytime a new I94 is issued, the validity of the I94 will not necessarily be the validity of your visa. For example, if you have a 5 year visa, but a 2 year work paper, your I-94 may be given only for those two years or less.

Actually I did ask for a new I-94 at the border crossing in June since mine was expiring in September. They asked me to park the car and go to the officer in the building. After paying some 10-15 bucks, he gave me a new I-94 valid till January 2007.

Hi Lambda,

I am in the similar situation, My I-94 is expiring in April'2006 because my passport is expiring in April'2006, but I have valid visa till Feb'2007, can you suggest me what I can do to extend my i-94 till Feb'2007.
