I-94 expiration

I have a question about i-94 expiration. Any help would be appreciated. If it says D/S on I-94, does the person still considered to have an expired I-94 even if he/she is out of status?

you will be out of status, but not you will not start accumulating illegal presense until a consular officer or BCIS officer makes an official determination that you are out of status. However, with SEVIS' help BCIS will know very soon that you have become out of status.
