I-94 date

My parents arrived on their B visa and have their return tickets scheduled for a date, 176 days (6 months) after their arrival date.
Their problem is that the date stamped on I-94 is 5 months after their arrival date. This was a calculation mistake on the immigration officer's part as he told my parents that they could stay in the US for 6 months, but stamped a date that was only 5 months from the arrival date.
What can be done in this case? Any suggestions please?

It really makes no difference what he told your parents verbally. If the issued I-94s grant 5 months, then that is what counts. The reason I do not think it is a mistake is because the rubber stamp used by an officer by default is set to 6 months from the present day. The officer will change the stamp date when issuing a restricted date. It is possible that the applicant right before your parents also got a 5 months I-94.
