I-90 with NAME CHANGE option

I would appreciate if somebody could share their experiences with filing I-90 form with the name change option (replacing green card due to change of the name).
Particularly, I am interested to know if I have to submit (give up) my old card at the time of biometrics appointment at ASC. If so, what could serve as a prof of my permanent resident status (e.g. for travel, applying for a new job etc) while I am waiting for the new card?
Can they stamp my passport or gave me any other temporary evidence of the status?

All supporting documentation must be submitted when
you appear in person at your local ASC. If you are
applying to replace a card because of a name change,
you must bring the original court order or a certified
copy of your marriage certificate reflecting the new
name when you appear in person at the ASC. To replace
a card because of a change of any other biographic data,
you must bring copies of documentation to prove that
the new data is correct.
