I-864,insurance and citizenship

Hello

I am new to this forum and had a rather unique situation. I hope there might be some answers.

I am a GC holder for about 4.5 years. My parents visited me recently and I had signed the I-864 affidavit of support for them. During their stay, my mother had to be admitted to the hospital due to a certain condition, for just 1 day. Although I had bought her insurance, they refused to pay for the hospital bills based on pre-existing conditions.
So I have been getting hospital bills and even collection notices from the other services...like X-ray, but thay are all in my mothers name.

Now my question is two fold.

1.Am I legally liable to pay these bills even though they are not in my name or dont have any reference to me?

2. will this affect my citizenship application? - given there is a clause in the requirements that the applicant has "not failed to support dependents". As far as I know the hosptial does not have my SSN and they certainly dont have any idea of my visa status etc.,. But I am wondering if there is a link between my having signed a support letter and my potential interest in appying for citizenship.

Thank you in advance for any answers or hints.

It depends on what you signed with the hospitals / doctors. Usually they will not admit a patient without someone signing admitting financial responsibility. If all you did was give the insurance card, you are likely fine. If you signed something, they will hold you responsible. Of course, you can negotiate with them through a lawyer if needed.

Naturalization impact - dunno. Wait for other senior members advice.

Collections from creditors does not affect your eligibility for naturalization.
As for your liability, since the bills aren't under your name I doubt they can make you pay (unless you signed financial responsibility) , although it doesn't stop them from going after your mother.

Thanks for the responses.

Actually my concern was more reg whether I violated the requirement of supporting dependents. My parents have gone back to India, by the way.
