Hello filers,

I filed the I-751 removal form on Sept, received NOA and
took biometrics and currently...just waiting .

Last week on a international trip I met on the plane a
naturalized citizen that shared with me a "weird" experience:

On 2002, while she was already a naturalized citizen originaly from the DR, she was on a relationship with a travel agent.

On her way back, after one of the many international trips she took that
year, she was stopped, questionned and searched at JFk airport at the "investigation room" - (the one the custom uses for immigrants with
some visa and other issues) - and let go an hour later after explaining
her boyfriend was a travel agent and they just loved travel together.

..Now if that happens for a citizen..........
My question is :I went shorlty in 3 different countries this year and I am planning to go somewhere in Europe for Christmas , should I be worried about my I 751??

Does "common sense" would suggest me to stay home and play safe?

What do you think?
Your opinion will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Bob,

No need to be concerned about such a thing happening to you... View it more as an isolated event, there is no law which bars immigrants from traveling more than 4 times abroad each year....

Enjoy your travels as long as you have the correct documentation...:)

Boat...

How does drug trafficking fits into the picture as outlined by OP? Don't you think it is premature to associate someone with drugs, when there is mention of the subject? Weird isn't?

Well, I think it depends on the countries you visit.

If I as a citizen, start visiting: North Korea, Iran, Cuba and Afghanistan... I am sure it would raise some eyebrows and flags...

Well since we are talking about some anonymous 3rd-party someone met on a plane, I really don't see the harm in speculating....

My thought process went along these lines:-
- person was originally from DR, a country with known smuggling problems
- extensive travel profile, probably including all sorts of "exotic" locations
- who would I pick out for further investigation if I were in charge of CBP

As far as I can tell, there is ALWAYS a reason someone gets selected for secondary inspection. Either they hit a visa problem (clearly not the case since she was a USC) or something about their travel profile or luggage raised a red flag.

Hi Roberto and others,

do you plan to travel internationally once your conditional green card expires? I know in theory they say that all you need is an expired green card and an extension letter if you intend to travel abroad, however I would like to know how many people have actually done this in practise and how did you get through the customs at the airport? I myself would like to visit my family for xmas, my green card is expired, and i have an extension letter (case pending, I-751), but I am terrified of living the US in fear of not being able to come back. Any replies will be appreciated. Thank you.

Mr. B,

I am now in the same boat as you.... :D Got your point....;)

you shouldn't have any problem. If all papers are ok, they have to let you back in the States. Worse comes to worst, you might get a second inspection, just to check all papers are ok, in which case they'll have to let you go, anyhow.

I know some people on expired conditional gc who traveled with extension letter. No problem at all when coming back home to the US. And one of them was a friend of mine who happened to travel internationally 3 or 4 times yearly
