hi everyone, just reading on some post, i would like to share experiences on POE with allien number stamp does it has any expiration date? im just asking why my family and i want to travel and apply for I131 for university so we probably leave us is less than a month so as i read that sometimes DHS stamp for only 30 days and if stamp expirate you supouse not to live USA, is not it?
Please advices and comments of experiences, sorry but my english is not so good,
thanks

Yes, the I-551 stamp will have an expiration date.

You can leave the US after it expires without losing your permanent resident status, as long as you return with a reentry permit or green card.

The physical green card should arrive at your US address in 2-4 weeks after you enter at the POE. And the reentry permit should arrive about 2-4 months after you apply for it.

Tks Jackolantern, is common to receive a stamp for only 30 days, or that depend on the visa you have , i mean: we won DV2011 so our I551 on passport said valid for 1 year after endorsment, so we supouse that the stamp will be valid for 1 year.
Hope to hear any coments on it.
Thanks again.

The actual visa, once "activated" or "endorsed" by CBP stamp upon entry makes the endorsed visa into a temporary greencard for one year. When you file for the re-entry permit, you will be required to stick around long enough to get fingerprinted and then may proceed abroad and may pick up the actual REP at a foreign DHS Office or Consulate as indicated on the I-131 that you filed. Get it filed correctly to avoid any problem in the future.

travelling on i-551 visa with DHS stamp

Hey my port of entry was Chicago o'hare airport...I got to the US December 27-2010..my passport got endorsed and I left immediately after 9 days.. am in Africa now.. ma green card was mailed to ma address after 12 days after arrival.. I have a cousin who came to africa for holiday ,she came with it.
Once your passport is endorsed with Dept of homeland security stamp ur free to go wherever ..because the stamp plus the visa in the passport acts as entry to the USA as a permanent resident as long as you enter before 6 months elapses...infact upon arrival you line up with US citizens and permanent residents. If u planning to stay outside the US for more than 6 months that's when you will need to apply for re entry permit..otherwise your free to leave the USA as long as your visa is endorsed
