I-539 Question Part 3.1 extension

Friends,

Applied and got a six month visa, when entering U.S. port of entry gave 3 months stay permission in U.S.
I am filling the I-539 form now and was not sure what to fill in part 3.1?

It's about requesting status be extended until?? Are there any rules for extension periode? I was planning for apply for an 6 month extension, so plus the 3 months, I will be staying 9 months in U.S. instead of 6 months planned according to my visa.

Is that a problem? Or should I just apply for a 3 month extension?? I am not sure about rules and limits.

If you ever want to get another visa I would advise you to go back as stated in I-94 and not apply for extension.

It seems both the consulate and at POE had doubts about you. Go back home wait for some time and then get another visa.

You have been given a chance dont blow it.
 
I think you misunderstood me. It is normal to apply for a 6 month visa B-1, at the POE they decide on how long a person may stay, I can be 1 month to 6 month. My mistake at POE was not mentioning that I'll be staying for 6 months in US, so they automatically gave the standard 3 months.

So, it seems to me normal to apply for an extension. My question was, what is the normal extension periode?? Do I need to apply for a 3 month extension, or am I allowed to apply for a 6 month??
 
You seem to be missing the point. There is a reason the officer gave you only 3 months and not 6 on your I-94. The standard is 6 and not 3 months. This is a sign that the officer had doubts about your intentions and now the ball is in your court to disprove him. Applying for I-539 is risky in the sense that it may cause you issues during future visits and/or visa applications. Previously I have gotten 6 month I-94s when my intended stay was 24 hours in the US. I would advise you not to apply for an extension. It is your call.
