I-485 - Strange/Bizzare RFEs!

Hi Everyone,

I just want to follow up on the new strange RFEs. My I-485 ND was Dec. 20, 99. I just got a notice to re-do my fingerprints. I'm just curious whether everyone will have to provide all the documents that some of you have been asked to do so. I submitted everything they needed. Now, I don't have my original passport, I can't find it! I don't have the original copies of my RTDs, as I returned all of them to CIS. I don't have any copies of the I-94s, I have traveled a lot over the last 5 years. Frankly, I'm really concerned. I guess I will find out whether I will need to submit all the documents once they receive my fingerprints. But as it seems right now, I may have to do so, it will be a pain! Anyone here got his/her I-485 approved recently without having to submit all the documents?!

Wantmygcnow,

Yeh, I'm assuming that they will ask for REFs, after receiving my fingerprints, as they have recently been doing so. I took my fingerprints in 2003, which expired. I just don't get this, my fingerprints have not been changed! So, it seems that they do not have the capabilities to keep the fingerprints in a system or something! We asylees deserve special GC, after going through all the pain!!!

Each RFE is different and not everyone gets one.

Yes! we have seen some cases on this forum when people did not receive any RFE, just direct approval. But those were in the past and it seems like right now with all this pressure of doing 33,000 more visas for ASylees, they want to make things difficult for us till the last moment (maybe a revenge tactic)

Fingerprints dont' change but YOU may have commited a crime since 2003..! The logical thing would be to rerun the prints but the faster/cheaper way is to reprint you and send it to the fbi..Reason I nkow this is because I work for the federal govt and we get background checks done every 2 years..We have to be re-fingerprinted...The reason is its cheaper and easier rather than going through your files...go figure!

I do not understand how that can be faster or cheaper. You have got fingerprints in file, go run them again to see if there are any fresh crime committed. Going through a file is not like as you might think, shuffling papers. Its all electronics and with a click of a button you can find a file and fingerprints in it.

Its just a typical way of doing things for government which makes little sense.

Well, this country prides itself into welcoming those how fear persecution/fear at their home countries based on a number of issues. It's true. But once they admit you as an asylee, then don't pay that much attention to you! They just need to get answers to all of their questions have during the asylum interview/approval process and spear us the pain afterwards. Right now, we just go through costant pain. No one really knows, including aslyum attorneys and immigration stuuf, what we are supposed to do, or not do. They need to, at some point, issue very clear guidlines for asylees!

INS is a mess. Thats all I can say. They don't have any logic in their actions. I think it's all depends from Immigr. Officer. Some of them do it fast, some like to take their sweet time and request all kinds of things. They have access to police database so it's easy for them to find out if somebody commited a crime.
