I-485 stamp in expired passport?

My relative is getting ready for I-485 interview. His lawer says he must obtain a new passport for his interview. The I-90 card is stapled in the old passport. The new passport is extremely difficult to obtain before the interview day. Can he use the old passport for interview and the stamp? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

No passport should valid atlease six months (or may be 90 days)

----------------- what is I-90 card? it should be I-94
The new passport is extremely difficult to obtain before the interview day.
--------------- if you belong to India then you CAN getnew passport copy from Embassy of India DC or any Indian consulate in US. they can also give you new passport same day if you pay extra fees and inform them the need to get it urgent

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

------------- He should take 2 photographs for green card and one extra photo because I read in some link that they may not stamp the passport if it is not valid but may fix Photograph on new I-94 form as evidence of his new status. better follow your lawyer advice
