I-485 notice not received!!!!

Hello to everyone. I have submitted my I-485 since Jan.2 2003 and have not heard from INS yet (no notice or receipt letter). It is getting close to 3 months since I sent in the I-485 and no answer. Is this normal or should I go ahead and try to contact INS without an LIN # and find out what is going on. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated, since I am new in the process.

Gilbert, thanks for your reply. I sent in a money order so I figure I cannot check if it has been cashed in or not.

My brother sent in his I-485 about two weeks ago. He sent it via certified mail along with the request receipt. He received the receipt back within a week. Two days after the receipt arrival he received two letters from INS. One was a receipt that his case has been received and the blah blah days it takes like to take a decision ...etc.... Along with that letter there was another letter.

The title of this letter was "Billing statement" he was told to send an additional $50 for finger print fee. (He had sent $ 255 Money order with his I-485 application) He has sent the $50 via personal check so he will have a proof that they indeed received the additional money.

Few things to remember while corresponding with INS.
Always ensure to use Certified mail for correspondence. This is an evidence when you say that you actually did sent mail.

If one want to expedite the processing of EAD/RTD etc.. Always send the Money Order as then they are not waiting for your check to clear (out of state check unless you live in Nebraska)

Gilbert,

What do you recommend a money order for INS or a personal check ? if one has to send fee to BCIS (INS)

Regards

I just submitted my I-485 a couple of days before.
Still waiting for receipt..

via certified mail
personal check attached @ amount of $305.00 (fingerprt fee+I-485)

Dear Kelvin! I am anxious to know what would be the number of days of processing time they would write on your I-485 receipt.

I applied for RTD and few days back I have got a receipt notice that it would take 999 days to process RTD.

Can you plz let us all know when your receipt arrives?

thanks,

My brother just filed his I-485:

Date Mailed : 3/15
Date Received: 3/17

Notice Date: 3/18

Days that it is taking to process these kind of cases :450-480

(Please don't take the number of days to process information seriously- As we have discussed in this forum many times that number is very random and has no influence on actual processing of the case)

Regards,

To RAasylee

Hey RA asylee
Which state did your brother send the aplication in from and to which service center! It is a very fast reponse time in 3 days. I have sent mine in to Nebraska SC 3 months ago and got nothing back yet.

All asylum-based applications go the Nebrasa without exceptions. I know people who filed in February who have received their receipts already.

Application was filed with Nebraska Service Center. This is the only service center asylees can file.

When u send applications to Nebraska service center the P.O. Box number corresponds to type of application you are submitting.

For e.g.
Nebraska Service Center
P.O. Box 87485

Last 3 numbers of the P.O. Box correspond to the type of applicaiton you are submitting. So applications at this P.O.Box number will be for I-485 etc...

Perol do you know the address u sent your application to ?

Perol,

If I were you, I would write a letter to my Congresssman and ask him to contact the INS to see what is going on with my application package.

Is there anyway I can call the INS to see what is going on with my application even though I do not have a receipt yet! will they let me know the status of my application without an LIN number?
Thanks again

See my message above which is th best way to get things done with the INS. Making a phone call is not likely to do you any good.
