I-485 pending, got AP, but not EAD, Can I travel?

hi,
    I am working on my H-1B visa and I filed my I-485 at CSC on 04-08-2002, received the AP on 06-03-2002. EAD is still in process. Lawyer told me that I can travel with my passport and AP. But I heard several people said that when I use AP to enter the border, I lost my H-1B status. Thus I need to get an EAD to allow me to work legally. Is that true?

If you are the primary beneficiary of 485

you can use AP and still maintain or revert back to H1. See murthy.com chat transcript 2 weeks ago.
