I-485 & misdemeanor

Hi everybody,

something's been bothering me for a while, and I just like to see if someone has some thoughts on this.

I had the misfortune of getting a misdemeanor hit-and-run in 1998 (accidentally backed into a car in a parking lot). I pleaded no contest and was fined $500. As far as I know, it's still on my police record.

I filed for I-485 in Nov 2002, got my fingerprints in Jan 10, 2003.

Should I worry about my police records? Anything I can do about it?

Thanks,
/ B

I don’t think it will have problems for GC it was not a big crime. Recently I received mail from some one who was also scared because he was caught with a prostitute when he was negotiating the price in Elizabeth NJ. Police arrested him and he was fingerprinted in police station and was told to appear in court next day he paid fine of 200 in court. His case was 245(i) and his file was transferred to Newark BCIS local office. At the time of interview he was asked if he has was arrested after filing I-485 and he replied YES and provided the fine paid receipt and the copy from court records (he got it from court clerk) He got his I-485 approved. Remember the I-485 was not sent to local BCIS on the base of the above, he entered US 6 years back, lost his I-94 and stayed illegal. He had many issues but got GC. For your peace of mind you can discuss with lawyer, as I am not expert. I don’t see any problem

I have the same sutiation with a misdemeanor and my lawyer says here won't be any problems. So far I didn't get anything on my I-485 case, though. Be sure to get a certified court record of your conviction - it's costs a couple of bucks and can be obtained from a court clerk.

HTH!

Don't have to admit anything unless the prostitue is a cop herself. Even that you can still arguing a lot.
