It's a long story. My case (EB3) was filed way back early 2002. The case was stuck at the state(IN) level for a while (due to backlog). I even did not get I-140 approved until May 2006. -----
I-485 was filed in Sep 2006 because the new priority date was set to Sep 1, 2006. Then magic thing happened ---I got the card in October....I even did not get EAD.....My attorney told me this is really rare, somehow they may 'mistakely' process my case that is supposed to be sit in the queue.
Anyway, who cares about EAD now, I got the green one.
So no matter what, just keep your hope, things will come to u.
