Wow eleven and a half year!. I waited 10 and a half and I thought I broke the record. I am sure there are people who will be taking 20 years as the years pass by. Anyway my friend i am happy for you and congratulations. You should receive your approval letter within 2 weeks. if you do nto receive it make sure you call them since one member had to deal with a late letter before.

You are right! Here I am a champion
But I have a friend who is even “luckier” She applied for asylum in 1990 and her first interview was Feb 2003, she got denied by immigration. Officer She spent 14 years here, became a doctor (she was doctor in my country too) she works like crazy, pays her taxes has no time even for her private life …and the result ???? Now she is thinking of getting married for papers maybe it will help her even she understands how dangerous it is.

Irina,

If I remember right, you and your friends are from the Soviet Union. If that is indeed the case, your friend may be eligible for a green card regardless of the asylum result under a special law. I strongly recommend her to investigate this possibility. Send me a PM if you want more details.

Gilbert, would you please tell what a special law you are talking about?

NACARA, passed in 1997, allows people from the former Soviet-block, El Salvador and Guatamala who had applied for asylum before certain dates (which vary by nationality) to become LPRs if they prove that deportation would result in unusual hardship.
