Hi all,

My husband's I-485 got approved on Jun 29th (got the news from email). We are still waiting for the approval notice and the card in the mail. However, we've booked tickets to abroad next week so we took an infopass to the local INS.

The IO gave him a I-551 stamp in his passport almost immediately after he learned that we need to travel outside US. However, he also took away his I-94 card, which is stapled to the passport. Is this normal?

I know that after GC, your I-94 is no longer in need. But searched the forum, and found what we experienced is not a standard procedure..

Please shed some light ... Thank you.

Your 551 stamp shows that your husband is now a permanent resident. When you leave, if the airline ppl want an I-94 just show them the stamp and that should suffice.
