Hi all,

I received an approval notice today. Per the notice, I am supposed to schedule InfoPass appointment at the local office to be fingerprinted  and my signature taken. This is needed for form I-155 (plastic card) processing as indicated in the notice.

I am supposed to take the following documents to my appointment:
1- (I-94)
2- Valid passport or other government issued photo ID
3- 2 photos

Now, an additional note states the following: "If you do not have a valid passport and require temporary evidence of your status, you should bring a third passport style photo"

Could anybody please tell me about this temp proof of status document, which I assume will have my photo? Is this document valid for reentry to the country?? This is very important for me to know as my RTD has expired and I need to travel soon.

My timeline:
RD: 2/9/200
FP: Feb 04
RFE: 1/28/05
Evidence received: 2/9/05
I-485 approved: 2/16/05

Evidence requested:
1- Medical
2- Updated biographic form
3- Proof and explanation of all travel outside the US after receiving granted asylum. Evidence should include copies of all RTD’s and I-94's with explanation of purpose of each trip and places visited.

Thanks for your help in advance

Congratulations. They will take your extra (third) photo and paste it onto a NEW I-94 card and endorse the card with a notation saying that you are now a lawful permanent resident of the United States. Your new I-94 will act as your green card until the actual plastic card is processed and mailed to you (which can take up to one year).

samoel, .... thanks....

thankful,
Thanks much 4 z info.
I am waiting for my updated RTD (applied 10/28/04). As you know, it will have my status as asylee. I will need the RTD to get visas to the countries that I will visit. Do you know if I can still use that RTD to travel or do I have to apply for a reentry permit (and wait another 6 month :( )?

Did you originally send them all copies of RTD's and I 94's or you skiped it. The reason of the question is to find out if they request the same papers twice. Thanks.

Congrats

Congratulations Asyleeee.
If they are approving February 2000 cases, I don't know why can't they update the Processing dates on USCIS web-site. In February these dates didn't move an inch

I hope it will jump from Dec 18, 1999 straight to April 2001 coz that's when my application was received. Wishful thinking????? Heck yeah ;)

Asyleeee,

Congratulations! Did you send them all the requested information prior to receiving your I-495 approval? Did you all copies of the RTDs, I-94s, visa? If not, how did you deal with this?

Gino

Thanks all for the congrats...

They received all requested documents on 2/9/05 and approved my application on 2/16/05. I always made copies of all pages of my expired RTD's before I returned them, but not I-94's. I traveled outside the country more than 20 times in the last 4 years and was expecting this question one day. To be honest with you, I was expecting to be called for interview but they accepted my written explanation instead.

To answer ayyubov's question, I did not have any RTD's or visas to send when I applied back in 2000. I only sent the application and biographic info and didn't send my medical until after the latest RFE.

Now my question again: I expect to receive a new RTD, which I applied for back in Oct 04 based on asylum status. Can I still use that travel document keeping in mind that I-131 form states:
"A refugee travel document is issued to a person classified as a refugee or asylee, or to a permanent resident who obtained such status as a result of being a refugee or asylee in the United States."

Please help..

Congratulations. They meant the I-551. I guess they added this new sentence for refugees and asyless whoc an not renew their passports. By the way, you gave hope to people that the people at the INs are actually working on cases beyond December. Good news

So many replies and nobody can answer this question?

here is what I know..

Asyleeeeee, The document that they'll give you (Temp. green card or I-551) will be good for re-entery to US but you'll continue to need the RTD for the visas stamps from the country you are visiting. So, the answer to your questions, yes this temporary green card will be good for re-entry in the US and yes, you'll need RTD for your future travel until you get your US passport.

Thanks

I had my appointment to submit 2 photos and fingerprint for the plastic card this morning. I also received the temp GC, which is basically a new I-94 with my picture. The lady at the local office confirmed what Punjabi_Munda mentioned earlier when I asked her about travel (thanks Punjabi_Munda!!!)

The whole process took about 5 min. One thing though, the lady first asked me if I have a passport. She then asked for a third photo and processed this temp card ONLY because I did not have a national passport to be stamped. That was shocking to me, didn't know you could use NP if you are adjusting from asylum!!!!
