I-485 Approval - AOS - Complication

Hello everyone,

I recently received my I-485 approval after waiting for nearly 4-5 years where the filing was made on the basis at the time of being a relative of a permanent resident, being under 21, and unmarried single. I am now told that I must file for an adjustment of status (which I've not done just yet) which based on the state I understand can very significantly in terms of processing time. As I am currently engaged, my lawyer has told me that my getting married during the time of filing for my adjustment of status will cause my case to be anulled/ voided.

My questions are as follows:

Is the lawyer correct in saying that getting married during the period (before or after applying for the adjustment of status) will cause the approval to get voided?

Why is marriage specifically a cause for anullment (if at all) and not age considering how eligibility at the time of filing included both age *and* status? After all, I'm not 21 anymore and why doesn't that anull it?

Any help will be greatly appreciated ..sadly, a life changing circumstance :(

Thanks All!

If your I485 is approved, then your AOS is done. I don't understand what you are trying to say. I think your I-130 is approved and you have been told to file for AOS (I-485). Am I correct? If yes, and your GC parents filed for your GC, then you can apply for I-485. If your uncle/aunt etc. filed for your parents and you qualify as a legal dependent, then you CANNOT file for AOS once you are 21. Now if your parents filed for you and you get married, their application is null and void.

Hope this helps.
