Dear immigration portal forum friends:
My sister's I-20 originally expires April 2004. But due to a new rule of BICS (elimination of the 1-year grace period of I-20) it actually is expiring this month. She was only told about this today (April 28). Her husband is a professor on H-1. They submitted their I-485 application package 1 month ago but do not know if their application was actually sent out. (Their school has an office to handle these and they do not hire any attorneys.) My sister is a graduate student on F-1 and meantime employed by a research institute on campus.
Is her situation serious? And what are her best choices right now to avoid being out of status?
Thanks a lot in advance,
Gaidahan
