I-130 Upgrade and errors discovered!!!!!!!!!

I plan to upgrade an I-130 approved application for my spouse once I become a US citizen(my N-400 is pending).
I filed an I-130 3 years ago for my spouse. I did not pay attention and just focus on the husband/wife part and wrote N/A for Part C question 17. My error also I did not make a copy of the application. Last year while going through my immigration documents I realized I didn't have a copy of I-130 sent to USCIS. I filed an FOIA to ensure I have a copy, I got it after 9 months. Now only to find out I wrote N/A not thinking and in the process didn't include our 1 year old US citizen at the time. The initial evidence did not include children birth certificates then.

Now the case is approved and at the NVC awaiting immigrant visa number. I called NVC to update my telephone number and ask what should I do correct the error. They referred me back to USCIS. When I called USCIS 1-800, the officer told me since the petition is already approved they can do nothing but when my spouse goes for the CP interview a letter should taken explaining the error. The state department will then refer back the case to USCIS for review. I was thinking of writing the service center where the I-130 was adjudicated and explain the situation so there is at least record of attempts to rectify the error.

But I would appreciate a few ideas from the forum.

Thanks.

A letter at CP interview explaining the omission is sufficient. You can also write the service center, but they may just tell you the same.
