I-130 procedure

Hi, I am about to apply for adjustment of status (F-1, got married). In connection with that I intend to submit form I-131, since I intend to travel to Germany sometime next year. Since I do not have a special date in mind, and I am not even sure if I will travel at all, I wonder how to proceed.
What happens if submit I-131 and don't travel after all?
What if I enter on date for travel and travel actually at another date?
If I don't submit I-131, how long am I stuck here until I can travel freely again? (I can't affort to pay another 350 buck just for this form)

Considering that the I-131 form is free and bundled with the $1,000 or so for your I-485, it makes no sense not to file it.
