I-130 for a parent - timeframe?

Hi everyone,

I'm very new to this forum, found it while googling about filing a petition for a parent.
I passed my naturalization test last week, will be getting my naturalization certificate by the end of October. I want to file a petition for my mother (she was denied visitor's visa 3 times already, so we don't really have any other choice except getting her a green card).
I wanted to know how long did the process take you for a parent (approx. timeframe).

Also, is there a thread about abbreviations and acronyms? As I read through the posts, I cannot figure out what some of them mean :)

From what I read on USCIS website, I need to send a copy of my birth cert. showing relation (and a marriage cert. since I have a different last name now), along with the form and $355 fee (I can't make a link to the website that I gathered this info from)

Is there any other info that I need to know?

Thanks much!

Emma, welcome to the board.
You will find all the information you need in the Parents GC AOS/CP sticky thread which is at the top of the forum.

Thanks VisaNutz.

I did find some info that I needed.

One more question though: Is there an income requirement for the petitioner? (An amount of money I need to make in order to be able to support my mother). Can my husband be a co-signer?

Thanks

Emma,

Petitioner must show that he/she can support the household including intended immigrants at a minimum of 125% of the federal poverty level. If you can't do this there are a few options:

1. You could use your husband's income, provided that he lives with you and the income will continue.
2. You could use income from any of your household members, provided that they sign an I-864A.
3. You could use a joint sponsor who is an LPR or a USC.
