I got an email today from USCIS that says

Application Type: I130 , IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN
Current Status:
This case has been approved. On October 14, 2005, an approval notice was mailed.

This is my second mail from USCIS. First one I received about 10 months ago. That mail says that application for my spouse has been received on November 2004. As I understand neither approval nor receipt means that visa number is available. And I still have to wait for this number.

According the service center schedule, visa number is available only for 2002.
Permanent resident filling for a spouse or child under - 21- February 12, 2002

So resume is: Approval does not mean anything really usefull.

Yes, you have to wait till your PD is current and looks like you have ~3 years to go before you are eligible to apply for AOS.

california service center??

what are you talking about? It seems that they are on March 2005, not 2002...i may not understand this stuff either...
i hope it all goes through for you fast!

the link you provided was the service center. the service center dates, are just dates that they are working on (ie seeing if they can approve documents). if you are talking about wait time to get your visa number you have to look at the visa bulletin. http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/bulletin/bulletin_1360.html if your spouse who is a LPR and not an USC you fall under the 2A catagory for family immigration. hope everything works out, take care.

I am a permanent resident and I have applied to my wife. My application for her has been approved. But I dont get, what it practically means. If it just a format apporval or it means that she can enter into the USA. She is living abroad and has never visited the USA before. I am US permanent resident. I got my GC about 3 years ago. 1.5 years ago I got married my current wife and on november 18 2004 my application was registred. On october 14/2005 it was apporved. But like people say, approval does not mean anything until visa number become available. And visa number is gonna be available fpr her only on 2007-2008 (if current pace remains the same). At least it is my current understanding.

You are right

I am in the same boat. My husband filed I-130 for me in Sept'04. But no news yet.

I heard same thing that I-130 does not mean anything. I have to wait till visa number is available or my hubby becomes citizen. :(

I wish they change this law.

How did you get your approval so soon? which state did you file from? Which is your service center?

Thanks.

It would be funny if it was not so sad. You say 11 months is soon. In which world we are living if housband and wife could not live together. Anyway, I am in NJ and service center is
Vermont

Vermont has been chugging through approving I-130's in record times. But yes, you both are right, spouses of LPRs that cannot maintain their own status in this country are currently SOL and have to wait for a visa number to be available before their AoS can be applied for or wait for their spouses to become citizens and work something to get them into the country. Hang in there, my good wishes are with you.

If after 3 years application is not approved then my spouse will be eligible for V-1 visa. So it is only  25 months to wait until she can apply for V-1 visa.

I am an LPR and filed I-130 at VSC for my husband in Oct 2003. Got an RFE a couple of months back saying 'if you think any of the docs are missing from you app, please send them otherwise discard this notice'.. It confused the hell out of me. Anyway, I just responded saying all the supporting docs were submitted with the original application.

Still waiting to hear back from them. Anyone know how long before we hear back after responding to an RFE.

Waiting....

In my case, I sent my papers to wrong service center and they asked me to resubmit application to correct one, sending me all docs back in 3 weeks. I hope that if they didn't send you a papers back then they are in right place at least. But I don't know what they do if application is incomplete. They send me notice about that my application is processed in 2 months. After 11 months I got approval. Ironiously Vermont service center claims that it approves application submitted before Feb/2002. I have submitted at Nov/2004 and It already was processed. So it looks like they do not really follow the date pattern.
