I-130 Approval Letter?

Got a question about what time I will get an approval letter or denial letter.

I am LPR and I filed for my wife I-130 on March 2008.
I got the receipt notice right after filing the I-130.
Still waiting for the approval letter.
I am aware that the whole process takes years until a visa number is abailable.
Just want to know when I can expect the approval Letter?? In 2 or 3 years or more?
On the Case Status online check, there is "pending" stated.
Do they show online if they change something or is the online case status check not that accurate?? Just in case if I dont get a letter in the mail for what ever reason!!

it could be years, because by the new rules USCIS approves the petitions closer to their current date.

the vermont service center shows following process time frame:
LPR I-130 for spouse: January 2006
So they right now process I-130 applications from 01-06 I guess?


do they show any change in the online status too? or just per mail??
