I-130 Approval - does it mean anything?

Today we received an email from USCIS notifiying that the I-130 (that I filed for my husband) has been approved. I don't really think it adds much value as I am a USC and my husband has already filed the I-485 and has his FP scheduled for next weekend... but I wanna have a second opinion. Does it really mean something? Or can it spell into something that means we are one step closer? Appreciate the thoughts.

Thanks in advance for your time. :)

Of course it means something. Like you said, you are one step closer, and if this step was denied, his I-485 had no value ;)

Oh yeah, I understand that I-130 denial means - end of story (at least for the time being). But I have seen most people getting their I-130 approved along with I-485 or just before the approval of I-485... so I was wondering what I should construe this (seemingly) early approval of I-130 as. My husband's FP is due next weekend... wondering if this approval is indicative of an interview call soon

Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you, I simply don't know, maybe other people, "older" than me in this particular forum, could give you an answer.

As a general rule, dealing with INS/CIS for so many years, I can tell that...there is no rule.
You have better chance to win the lottery than make a logical, educated guess of what's going to be next step of CIS

Switching from CP to AOS?

a_usc,

Thanks for sharing your timeline. May I ask a couple of questions:

- You filed only I-130 first and then separately I-485. Did you send I-130 to CSC? Or did you send I-130 only to Chicago lockbox?

- On I-130, q.22 did you fill out USCIS office (San Jose, CA) for AOS or did you fill out consulate/country for Consular processing?

I sent I-130 for my parents to VSC and indicated consulate & country for CP on q.22. I am trying to determine whether it is strightforward to switch from CP to AOS (when applicants are in USA) by sending I-485 package alongwith copy of I-130 notice to Chicago lockbox.

Thanks.

Visaapplicant,

1. I mailed the I-130 to CSC... that was in Nov last year, we didn't know the process back then and didn't realize that I-485 can be filed concurrently. Later we sent the I-485 to the Chicago Lockbox.

2. I don't quite remember what I filled as an answer to that question. I have a strong feeling that I would've filled San Jose, CA. Can check and let you know in the evening. Don't know how feasible is it to switch from CP to AOS. You might need to ask USCIS or may be someone more knowledgeable on the topic here can comment :)

a_usc,

Thanks for the answers. You were not planning for CP but just filed I-130 and I-485 separately. I guess in that case, like you mentioned, you would have filled San Jose, CA.
