Hurry Help!! AOS interview but I (USC) don't have birth certificate with me

Hi,

I am a naturalized USC and file I-485 for my wife. We'll have our interview in a few days. I just find that I need to bring my birth certificate for the interview but I don't have it with me. I just wonder if it is really required? Isn't the evidence of US citizenship enough? What should I do if I can not get the birth certificated before the scheduled interview? Will the application get denied? Can we submit my birth certificate after the interview? Any help will be really appreciated!

Thanks.

Do you have a passport?
It's not hard to get your BC. Just go to your city hall and ask for it. Depending on the State, they will either issue one right there and give it to you or they will mail it to you and you will get in within a week or so.

BC issue with Petitioner

Hello,

My husband became a naturalized USC when he was about 12 yrs old and we have no access to his BC, the only POC we have access to is his US Passport, will this be a problem during AOS interview?

Thanks for any info. Good luck to all of us!

Except that he wasn't born in a US state, and hence the naturalization....

Ha...I missed that part

It's ok. There is not enough time to get bc. I do have my US passport. Is the lack of bc of petitioner bad enough to get my wife interview denied? Thanks.

It wont be denied. If needed, you will be given enough time to submit it to the officer. Till then, the GC would remain pending. Proof of citizenship is what is needed during the interivew because the officer would want to confirm you are a USC. Your naturalization certificate should do the trick.

How about a Baptism Certificate? I hear that in some cases where a Birth Certificate is unavailable, a Baptism Certificate would be accepted as a suitable substitute.

It won't work for me because I am not baptized :-(. Thanks.

I know it's different case by case but during my AOS interview we weren't asked for the birth cert of USC. The officer said he only needs the birth cert of the person who wants to get the GC. :)

Thanks a lot! I am a little bit relieved :-).

It was the opposite for my interview. My wife had to show her BC. My understanding is that if the sponsor submitted copy of birth certificate with the application to prove US citizensnship, the officer, during the interview, would ask to see the original for verification. likewise same for naturalization certificate.

Passed interview today but no stamp

Hi,

We passed the interview today. No BC was required during the interview. The officer is nice and congratulate us for passing GC interview. She said the plastic GC should be mailed to us within 2 weeks. I asked if she can give my wife a temporay one and she insisted that it is no need because the real one is coming soon. We were very happy. But after we went out the building, I found that she did not stamp or give approval letter to us. She took the appointment letter and I-94. I become a little bit worried again. I have my fingers crossed to wish everything is going fine. Is there any similiar experience/case like this?

Thanks.
