That's where most of the north indians are wrong. Due to some historical reasons (All south india used to be Madras state till 1950's), North indians treat all south indians as one (madrasis), which is very much untrue. There are lot of differences in mentalities and behaviours between Tamilians, Telugus, Kannadigas and Malayalees. Sambar is associated with Tamilians and this guy (1amShantanu) hates Tamilians. Your reply is a typical mediocre Indian reply. Always not looking as a single unit, in this case Indian, but always wanting to divide it to North or South Indian - Tamilian or Telugu, Hindu or Muslim, Forward or Backward. When will you learn to co-exist and respect others.

There is more classification and categories existing in the US but the society still co-exists without smirking or disrespecting a Southern's culture or a westerner's culture.

I don't understand what bad remarks i made against any group. Abhi has asked why 1amShantanu blames 'sambar people' if he is South indian . I only explained the reason. Read the context. Don't jump the gun. I am not the type to pass lose comments.

I gotta come to the rescue of Dsatish as he was responding to me. I do not think there is anything offensive here, he has been a valuable member in this forum - if you want to see offensive do some search in the forum and you will be surprised how much hatred exist between people of common stature.

By the way Dsatish - I basically disagree with you. I have been around for a while and I know for a fact Santanu ( that was his earlier id) used to target the entire South Indian community.. Also - I happen to know the difference you explained as I have lived in South for a while. I knew it anyway because I am east Indian, do not know if there is a category like that but I made it up. But I do not believe that most north Indians would be ignorant of the different South Indian states either( I lived in North India for a while too).

The fact is to have the realization in this independence day that the first generation immigrants like us can be taken out of our country but the country can not be taken out of our heart. It really is secondary from which region we come from( apart from a few like Santanu).

The posts of Sharabi and BankeBihari and also my personal experiences with someof the north indians have influenced my idea that most of the North indians consider all the south indians as one lumpsum.
Talking of various groups (north indians, south indians, telugus,tamils, muslims etc) does not constitute divisive issue. It is same as talking of americans, candians, indians etc. The important thing is we should not pass bad remarks about others or other groups.

What can you do. Most of the Hindi movies plots are about north India. When they go south they just go for picnic or vacation in south. Not to any specific provinces.
 
I think that this thread is today's TGIF. Shantanu might have wanted to see what others think of him . He must be having great time on seeing all this attention.
