How to resolve DOB issue?

I dont know the answer to this issue so I am asking other experts on this forum. My friend just got his PR approved. The problem is this, his real date of birth as in U.S immigration papers, his country passport etc is 09/04/1979 or Sep 4, 1979 which was filed by his lawyers.

However the doofus that he is and since most of the world uses the format of Day first, he put 04/09/1979 in his Social Security application. His SSN says Apil 09th whereas his U.S PR Card says September 04th. His license says same as his SSN card.

What should he do? He doesn't want to confuse the already confused USCIS and doesn't want to give his GC. Also confusing SSN administration is also very possible.

Any ideas?

It seems he needs to fix it with SS and then DMV. His GC has correct info so he doesn't have to worry about it.

Dob

If I was him, I'd just start with SSA and tell him that he made a mistake due to different date format used in his country. After getting a new SS card, go to DMV and get his DL corrected. It would be a heck of a lot easier than dealing with USCIS and also it would be his correct DOB.

One of my friend had applied for a Drivers Liscence in state of Texas, and they mistakenly entered an incorrect DOB on his new DL. He went back to the same office.....showed them his INS issued work permit alongwith newly issued DL.... DMV guys made a photocopy of his work permit and took his pic again... he received his new DL (with correct DOB) within two weeks.

So ..if I was him... then I would go to DMV first and then go to SSA with both USCIS PR and DMV DL to get the correction done in SSC. Just to save SSA & myself from further confusions... I would only ask to get the correction done... because its very minor mistake....mistake in the format of same DOB.... (Just as my friend did in state of texas) and I wont go into further details that who was wrong....

What about Banks? credit card companies? Insurace? Is it possible that he updates his SSN and he is locked out of his bank since usually banks look at ID matching birth dates..right?

Bank accounts and caredit cards

After correction is made with SSA and DMV, he can take his new SSC and DL to his banks and request they make the adjustment. I'm 99.99% sure his SSN is not going to change, it will be the same number. Then he can call his credit card company and request the correction in his DOB, if they don't, tell the credit card company to close his account. There are so many other companies who would love to sign new credit card holders.

It's a big deal with CIS man (what isn't?) I had the same problem with my other documents. It took me about 6 months to get things fixed. If your birthday and birth month is in lower digits like mine, than INS gets confused.(like 04/06/1979 in june forth in russia, but it's April sixth over here) I had to get certified copy of my birth certificate and send it to them. Good luck to your friend with his stuff.
my best regards
