Hi everyone!

My sixth year H1 expires on July 23, 2006. I do not have any labor filed/pending. Recently, I changed my employer and transfered my H1 to new Company. The approval notice and I94 came valid until May 14, 2008. Please clarify the following for me.
1. Does anyone keep track of the H1 clock?
2. Can I return to my home country in July 2006 and come back in say, August 2007?
3. Can I extend my H1 in 2008?

Thank You

Question (1) & (2) is already answered by honkman.

For Q3: You need to enter US again in a valid visa to extend your status. Once you are here, you can extend the status as any other H1.

Should be OK, but after you finish college, what are you going to do ?
You can not apply new H1 because you already consumed 6 years with H1
and never left the US.

Correct. Changing status to F1 won't reset your six year clock.

What if his wife goes on H1 and he goes on H4? and your wife applies for GC then, Will his H1 clock reset?

Just curious

If his wife completed 6 years with H4, she can not apply for H1.
If his wife did not complete 6 years with H4, then she can apply for H1,
and then he can be H4 as dependent even though he finished 6 years with
H1, but that itself does not reset H1 clock.
To reset H1 clock, they need to stay out of the US for more than a year, otherwise it's not reset.
