hello, i recently received my interview notice of I-485. I read the interview FAQ here, it is very good, but i still have some questions about the documents i need to bring to the interveiw.

especially the supporting evidence of your relationship, we just got married a few months ago, so our appartment lease is still in my name, the only documents that have both of our names are credit card and bank account. is it enough if i only bring these two to the interview?

is there any posts about what documents to bring to the interview?

Thanks a lot!!! I will apprecitate any information.

Susan
P.S. thank you all for posting the valuable information here to help me get my application ready. thanks a million!!

Bring every possible thing that can directly or indirectly show that your marriage is bona-fide. If the lease is not in your both names, I don't think its that big of a deal if you have a lot of other things credit card, bank account, insurance (all sorts), pictures, letters that have been mailed to both of you (from family members or other), it would not hurt adding your spouse's name to the phone, cable bill, if you guys traveled together or did other stuff together (concerts, hotels, etc.) make sure you bring something that shows that you did that together....just make sure you organize everything carefully so that it would be clear what is what...I think if your marriage is bona-fide there is nothing to worry about...

what is your timeline??

thanks for the info

thank you very much!!

sorry, the signature didn't show up on the first post,
here is my timeline below:

seems like you also applied for AP and EAD and got an interview before you got them...I am really hoping my AP comes through...any experinse with getting AP you possibly heard of??

ya, as i read from this forum, it seems a lot of cases that were filed in 2006 got the interview pretty fast.

i read cases of both sistuations, either got their AP and EAD between the interview notice and the actual intervew day.
or when they go to the interview they were told that since the GC comes before the other two, they won't be issued those two, but just get the GC directly.

it seems your case is really fast, i wish you the best of luck!!

Susan,

at my interview the first thing the officer asked for was a lease agreement in both our names. He wasn't really interested in anything else.
I'm sure that it will be ok not to have it, when you have a lot of other important documents like insurances together and joint bank accounts.

But if you can manage to get both your names on the lease agreement for the apartment, that would be better.
It just seemed very important to him to see that we live together.

Good luck to you! :)

I think you should be able to just update your lease and add your husband to it. In fact, I think you're supposed to list all the people living in the apt...

Hello,

My interview was on july 28th and following is what i took with me.

1. Photos from my wedding
2. Our Phone bills that are under both of our names (cell phone, home phone)
3. Joint Tax Return that we filed together for 2005
4. Copy of our lease
5. Both of our Drivers License

i think that was it. She looked at everything and asked us some questions on when we got married. Asked about my birthdate and that was it. My Name check was already taken care of so, she said that everything looks good and i should receive my GC within 30 days and if not then i should contact them. So far, i have already received the "welcome Letter" and hopefully will be receiving my GC soon. My advice to you would be to take anything and everything that proves that your marriage is bona fide. The more the better.

thanks.

I wasn't.
We moved in together officially last December. The lease was only under my name because she's still in Law School and therefore no stable income.

After we got married I called the landlord's office to add her on the lease, but they told that they can't do it and they'll do it in December when we renew the lease.

Its very simple!
Follow the instructions on the interview letter, it serves as a checklist and is very detailed,
Make a copy of your interview letter, and use the checklist ;check off each item as you put it aside in an envelope for the interview.

Simple!

Thanks a lot verybody for your information. I so appreciate you!!

I pretty much have everything listed in the interview letter list. except the "supporting evidence", because we just got married for a few months, so a lot of things are not in both of our names.

and so far, my main concern is our lease agreement, that is only with my name, how necessary it is that i get the lease change to both of our names? it will take me a little while and a little bit extra money for the manager company to do that.

so far we do have bank account, credit card and car insurance in both of our names.

It is not difficult to include your spouse on the lease. All that you need to do is speak to the management company and get the document . They might run a credit check , but that's about it .

It is imperative that you produce documents that shows that you live together . Joint Accounts , investment accounts ,insurance , both names on property like car ,boat or any asset .

From my experience ,
A lease is one document that HOLDS A LOT OF JUICE legally during the AOS interview !

Hope this helps !

If you do Not have the joint lease agreement, then any utility bills in Both of your names at the same address, joint accounts of any kind( cell phones, Auto insurance, bank accounts, Club memberships)

If you have Auto Insurance, bank account and credit card in both names then you have enough evidence, for good measure I would add your spouses name to a couple of Utility Bills, just call provider Phone, internet, & Electric Co. and ask them to add the second name to the account and make sure they also include the second name on the Billing address so you have proof.

Lastly relax you should be fine, take photos, gift receipts from honey moon, or wedding rings, anniversary / Birthday cards exchanged & just talk about how you met your spouse, think of this as a chance to share with a complete stranger how special your Spouse is to you, and share your story, be genuine.

And Good Luck :)
