What is the maximum time allowed for a GC holder to stay outside of US?

I heard 2 answers:

1. The GC holder must come to stay in US at least 6 months each year
2. The GC holder must come to US once a year

The second answer apparently doesn't have requirement for how long
to staty in US, only require to come every year. Does anybody know which
one is correct?

Actually neither of those is correct.
You need to maintain a permanent residence here and should not have abandoned it.

Merely making a trip to the U.S once every 'n' months won't cut it.

First of all if you "stay" 6 months in USA instead of "living", you have already showed your intention not to be a GC holder. Merely complying 6 month rule is not enough. You must show some good reason to "live" other 6 months outside USA.
