Hello, how can someone who has a pending I-485 and divorced - while having their case processed - inform the USCIS local office that they want to withdraw the case because they divorced?

The best way I think, is to get the petitioner to cancel the whole deal.

In my case the USCIS didn't respond until my ex-wife told them she no longer wanted to sponser me. The I-130 was cancelled pretty much straight away.

I think the prper thing to do is that the petitional should write a letter of withdrawal and attached copies of the notices letters and all other documents that you have received from them.

They will send you an aknowlegement letter saying your application has being withdrawn.

Pls note that this has to be done by the petitional before you can file any other application in the future.

Best of luck

In order to inform USCIS about something like this, people would need to inform to the office wherein the case is being processing. But since USCIS is a most bureaucratic agency of US govt. then it is better to write to all of its offices to make sure they know what you wanted to tell them. That means, one can send the copy of the same letter/request to local office, service center, headquarter in Washington D.C., Chicago office, Missouri office. You have nothing to loose by sending your request to all these offices; rather it is to get surety of your request.

But make sure to write full information-like beneficiary's name, date of birth, place of birth, Alien number, Petitioner's name. Also, try to attach any correspondence received from USCIS like receipt notice or something like that.

Good luck.
