How to handle EAD renewal after one year ??

Folks,

My EAD is getting expired on Mar 2003. Lawyer has sent out notice for the paperwork, saying that there is 6 month delay for EAD processing.

Should I process my EAD renewal through the normal channel. i.e. send EAD application (extnension) to INS CSC office, till they process it after 3/4/5 months

OR

Walk into a local INS service center 3-4 weeks before the expiry date and get an EAD extension.

How did you folks handled it. I am pretty sure some of you have done it, especially the 01 series 485 appliers.

Your replies will be appreciated.

My lawyer

My Lawyer has suggested to file at least 90 days in advance of lapse date of EAD so that I can get the iEAD card if 485 is not approved before the expiry of EAD which for me is April first week....

Also my lawyer was very pessimistic of getting 485 approval before Dec and even suggested that there was a very very high probablility of getting an employment RFE which might further delay the case:( :( :(
 
can you elaborate a little more?

did you lawyer give you any details as to why your case would not be approved before December? has your probability of getting an RFE increased because you have been laid off/changed jobs? if you're willing to share, more details would be welcome

I have neither changed jobs nor been laid off(touch wood)....But my lawyer said that INS is really looking very hard at all the cases and issuing a lot of RFE's for employment verification because INS is very worried that in this economy whether you still have have a job or not...My lawyer is a member of AILA and has been generally right in predictions regarding immigration matters...Also being an AILA member attends all the different AILA liasion meetings with INS and is up to date with all the latest happening in INS...

2nd ead filed 10/8

checks got cashed on 10/11.
Lawyer expected a 4 month delay...current ead expires 2/14/03.
I-485 wac # 02-035.

I am filing for EAD on my own for my wife. Do you know the list of supporting documents list.
Do you know if I need to send passprt copies with EAD application?
 
sorry ..I dont know...

lawyer handles it all..i just subnitted new photos and EAD FP card and 2 checks.
